A Lake District restaurant is celebrating its 10th anniversary.
1863 in Pooley Bridge is led by head chef and business partner Phil Corrie.
The restaurant with rooms has won several awards over its lifetime, including 3 AA Rosettes for culinary excellence, 4 star gold AA for Guest Accommodation, Cumbria Tourism’s Taste’Award and inclusion in the coveted Michelin Guide.
Most recently the team received news that they had been voted Number 1 in the UK and Number 12 in the world for Date Night by Tripadvisor.
Menus in 2026 will feature dishes that have particularly resonated with diners over the years.
Owners Mark and Anne Vause said: “Making it to our 10th anniversary is quite the milestone when you consider the challenges we’ve had to overcome together.

“The last decade has been a lot of hard work but equally incredibly rewarding. We still have to pinch ourselves from time to time when we reflect on what we’ve achieved with our exceptionally dedicated team.
“As to the future, well, we had considered taking it slightly easier and to that end, put 1863 up for sale.
“However, we both feel reinvigorated with this anniversary year, so we’ve taken it off the market and are now looking with Phil at how to build on our offering as we approach our second decade in business. Most definitely exciting times ahead!”
