Owners of Sedbergh’s Black Bull are celebrating after winning a prestigious award.

The Black Bull was handed the Good Hotel Guide Editor’s Choice Award for Best Hotels for Foodies 2026.

First published in 1978, the Good Hotel Guide has grown to become the leading independent guide to hotels in Great Britain, Ireland, continental Europe and the Caribbean.

With more than 700 entries, the guide showcases outstanding hotels, inns and B&Bs recommended by readers and supported by professional inspections.

During the awards ceremony, the team announced its annual list of César winners, 21 awards named after celebrated Swiss hotelier César Ritz, recognising properties deemed exceptional within their category.

Thirteen Editor’s Choice certificates were also presented and Sedbergh’s Black Bull claimed the Best Hotel for Foodies certificate for the second year running.

James Ratcliffe, co-owner of the gastropub with rooms, said: “We’re thrilled to have been presented with an Editor’s Choice award for the second consecutive year.

“We’d like to say a big thanks to the whole team, who have really pulled together and continue to make the Bull a great place to dine and stay for all of our guests.”
