Cumbria’s Eden Yard has won a prestigious national farming award.

The business, near Penrith, was named the Small to Medium Diversification of the Year winner at the British Farming Awards.

Eden Yard, now in its fourth year, produces the county’s only cold pressed rapeseed oil from its 770-acre Eden Valley farm near Plumpton.

It is owned by husband and wife team Ben and Jannike Taylor.

It has expanded into flavoured oils, dressings, honey and stoneground flour and is set to open a farm shop on the A6.

Judges at the British Farming Awards said: “Jannike demonstrates impressive initiative by turning farm produce into marketable products and
fostering local supplier collaborations.

“Her forward-thinking approach is evident as Eden Yard plans to diversify further with a farm shop for direct product sales.”

Bn and Jannike said: “We are just absolutely blown away to have won this award in such a competitive category and we are so grateful for the support people have shown us.”

Two other Cumbrian businesses were shortlisted in the category – the Herdwick Experience and Cotton Eye Sew
